What is The Forest?

The Forest is an open world survival horror game by Endnight Games. After a plane crash you are stranded on a remote, densely forested peninsula – and watch as your son Timmy is carried out of the wreck by a strange figure. The search for him quickly turns into a fight for survival against a tribe of cannibalistic mutants that rules the island.

At the core of the game are gathering, crafting and base building. You cut down trees, build shelters, set traps and secure your camp against attacks that come mostly at night. During the day you collect food and building materials, at night you defend what you have built – and the cannibals learn over time, observing your camp and attacking in groups.

Below the surface waits the second half of the game: a vast cave system full of mutants where you find key equipment such as the climbing axe, the rebreather and the chainsaw. These items open up new routes across the map and at the same time drive the story about your son forward.

The Forest can be played solo or in co-op with several players on a shared server. On your own server your world persists even when nobody is online. The game launched in Early Access in 2014, reached version 1.0 in 2018 and is available on PC via Steam. Its sequel is called Sons Of The Forest.
