What is SCUM?

SCUM is an open-world survival game by the Croatian developer Gamepires. You play a prisoner on a sealed-off prison island who fights for survival as a contestant in a brutal television show – watched by an audience and guarded by drones and automated sentry turrets.

At the heart of the game is an unusually detailed survival simulation. Your character has a full metabolism with calories, vitamins, nutrients, hydration and digestion. What you eat and drink directly affects your stamina, strength and health. On top of that come skills that improve through training as well as values such as body weight and muscle mass.

On the island you gather resources, craft equipment, build bases, repair vehicles and loot towns, military bunkers and abandoned buildings. Besides zombies and wildlife, other players are the greatest danger – though server owners can just as well run their world as a pure PvE server.

SCUM launched into Early Access in 2018 and reached version 1.0 on 17 June 2025. The game supports single player as well as multiplayer on a shared server and is available for PC via Steam.
