What is Ground Branch?

Ground Branch is a tactical shooter by the US studio BlackFoot Studios, founded by former developers of the early Rainbow Six and Ghost Recon titles. You take on the role of a covert operator and carry out missions where preparation, communication and a calm approach matter far more than fast reflexes.

At its core sits an uncompromising focus on realism: no crosshair in the middle of the screen, free aiming, leaning and finely graded stances and movement speeds. A single hit can end a mission — which is why teams move slowly and deliberately through buildings and terrain.

A standout feature is the extremely deep gear customisation. From the operator to clothing, plate carriers, weapons, optics, suppressors and even the contents of individual magazine pouches, almost everything can be tailored. You take these loadouts with you onto every server.

You can play solo against AI, co-op with friends or in PvP. Mission types include hunting down enemy combatants, retrieving intel, extraction and defuse objectives. The Steam Workshop additionally allows maps, game modes and gear to be added.

Ground Branch launched into Early Access in 2018 and reached version 1.0 in July 2026, which brought new maps and game modes among other additions. The game is available on PC via Steam.
