The Cenozoic Era
What is The Cenozoic Era?
The Cenozoic Era is a survival game by Opendix Studios in which you take control of a prehistoric creature and have to hold your own on a shared server. The title was originally released under the name Artemishea and is offered as a free-to-play game in Early Access on Steam.
The core of the game is the life cycle of your creature: you start out small, keep yourself supplied with food and water and grow into a fully grown animal over time. How fast that happens is decided by the server owner through the growth speed. Breeding and the mutations during breeding can be enabled and disabled independently of each other on your own server, and so can the skill tree. Progress is measured in points, which an admin can also hand out directly if needed.
Which map is loaded and which game mode is played is up to you on your own server: in Sandbox mode you practise without permanent death, in Survival mode every life counts. Changing seasons and a dynamic weather system ranging from clear skies through fog and rain up to storms shape everyday life – an admin can set the weather and the time of day with a command while the server is running, and freeze the time of day on top of that. After a fight, carcasses remain as a food source for a configurable amount of time before they disappear.
The Cenozoic Era is built around multiplayer and supports both PvP and cooperative play. Players find servers through the in-game server browser. On your own server you enter the owners of your team in the server configuration and decide by chat command who gets to stay and who does not. On top of that you can assign your own name colors for owners, admins, moderators, VIPs, supporters and regular players.
Your own server also gives you control over the welcome message, the rules text and the stored Discord invite code – chat and damage messages can even be mirrored into your Discord via webhooks. The game is available on PC via Steam.
