Abiotic Factor
What is Abiotic Factor?
Abiotic Factor is a cooperative first-person survival crafting game developed by Deep Field Games. You play a scientist inside the underground GATE Cascade research facility, where an experiment has gone badly wrong. The facility is sealed off, anomalous creatures break out of the labs everywhere – and your team has to survive on whatever the site still has to offer.
At the core of the game are crafting, base building and exploration. Instead of wood and stone you gather office supplies, lab equipment and electronic scrap: coffee machines, filing cabinets and leftover cables become weapons, workbenches, power supplies and defences. At the same time you have to keep an eye on your character's food, water, stamina and health as well as on the safety of your base.
The facility consists of several sectors that you unlock step by step – from the office wing through the sewers to the portal worlds behind the experiments. The game deliberately goes for a retro 90s sci-fi atmosphere, with plenty of humour, scientific jargon and nods to classic first-person shooters.
Abiotic Factor is built as a co-op game: a team of around six players is considered the recommended size, and technically larger groups are possible on one server as well. On your own dedicated server your research facility persists permanently, even when nobody is online – everyone can drop in at any time and continue working on the shared progress.
The game launched into Early Access in May 2024 and reached version 1.0 on 22 July 2025 with the "Cold Fusion" update. Besides the PC version on Steam there are versions for PlayStation and Xbox – between them Abiotic Factor supports cross-platform play.
