What is Left 4 Dead 2?

Left 4 Dead 2 is a cooperative first-person shooter by Valve based on the Source Engine. Four survivors fight their way together through a world ravaged by an infection, moving from one safe room to the next until they reach the rescue point at the end of a campaign.

The focus of the game is teamwork. Survivors share ammunition, medkits and pills, help each other back up and have to stick together, because individual players can be taken out instantly by special infected. On top of that there are melee weapons, throwables such as Molotovs and bile bombs, and a wide selection of firearms.

Variety comes from the so-called AI Director. It dynamically controls when hordes appear, where supplies are placed and which special infected show up — which means the same campaign plays out differently every run. Besides the co-op mode there are also Versus, where a second team plays the infected, as well as Survival and Scavenge modes.

Left 4 Dead 2 has a very active modding scene. Using Metamod:Source and SourceMod you can run plugins on your own server that extend the rules, difficulty, player count or admin features. On your own server you decide which campaign runs, which game mode is active and who gets admin rights.

Left 4 Dead 2 is especially popular among players who enjoy fast, action-packed co-op rounds with friends on a game that can be customised extensively through plugins. The game is available on PC via Steam.
