Left 4 Dead
What is Left 4 Dead?
Left 4 Dead is a cooperative first-person shooter by Valve based on the Source Engine. Four survivors fight their way through a world struck by an infection, trying to get from one safe room to the next and finally to the end of a campaign.
Teamwork is at the heart of the game. The survivors share ammunition, medkits and pain pills, help each other back up and have to stick together, because individual players can be taken out instantly by special infected. Anyone running off alone usually does not get very far.
Variety comes from the so-called AI Director. It dynamically controls when hordes show up, where supplies are placed and which special infected appear — which means the same campaign plays differently every run. Besides the co-op mode, your own server also supports Versus, where a second group takes over the infected, as well as Survival.
Left 4 Dead can be extended on the server side. Metamod:Source and SourceMod allow plugins on your own server that add game rules, difficulty tweaks or admin features. On top of that, custom campaigns can be added as VPK add-ons. On your own server you decide which campaign runs, which game mode is active and who gets admin rights.
Left 4 Dead is particularly popular among players who enjoy fast, action-packed co-op rounds with friends and want the original title that started the series. The game is available on PC via Steam.
